Effects of Secondhand Smoke - very much exaggerated
To say that the effects of secondhand smoke have been exaggerated is to make an understatement. According to Larry Eldor, a libertarian minded individual, they are a lie. I think so too.
If we want to talk about secondhand smoke facts, then let's talk about the facts. Exaggerating facts doesn't help the cause of liberty and justice, and it doesn't help turn hysteria and fear into truth.
I've heard some incredible claims from those that want to take away our freedom. Let's learn about them.
In a 2009 Wyoming House committee hearing, a medical doctor representing smoking ban forces testified that according to a Surgeon General report, there is a higher concentration of toxins in secondhand smoke than there is for the person who is smoking.
That's like saying you're more wet at poolside after some guy in the pool splashes you than the guy in the pool doing the splashing. Yeah right!
I think our doctor friend really wanted to make a point to the committee, but some on the committee weren't buying it. And, why should they? When questioned by the committee, the doctor couldn't defend the statement. He simply said that he didn't know why.
I know why - he had been taken in with all the exaggerated reports from the government. So much so that something as obviously false as his belief that the toxic effects of secondhand smoke were greater for people who were not smoking.
Something so obviously contradictory didn't even get challenged in his own mind. I was embarrassed for him, and happy that he wasn't my doctor.
Anyway, here is a scientist who cautions against exaggerating claims about secondhand smoke, and like me, he's a non-smoker.
I agree with everything he has to say, except when he says "...nobody is bothered by smoke more than I am...." because that distinction belongs to me; I am the original anti-smoker.
And, if you're not convinced that the claims regarding the effects of secondhand smoke are exaggerated, then take a look at this. Here is clear evidence that the effects of secondhand smoke aren't what they are cracked up to be.
This video reminds me what George Carlin used to say about his many rules for living. He said: "One of my rules is - I never believe anything the government tells me." I always thought George Carlin was a bright guy, and I always will.
If you are a person of integrity, even if you hate smoking like I do, you have to recognize that lies are from people that can't be trusted. And, in this case, we have lies and people who believe them, all in the interest of taking away the freedom of others.
Join me as a Libertarian and defend rights and freedom of choice for everyone. Smokers have the right to smoke on private property with permission of the owner, and I have free choice to take my business elsewhere.
If we don't defend freedom for all, even the smokers among us, then all of our freedoms are in jeopardy.
